Exemplar Health Care has been having fun in the sun this month!

Being a part of your local community can be an important factor to people in their daily lives. At Exemplar Health Care, we encourage and support people to remain and/or become a valued and active member of their local community.

Throughout July, we’ve seen some of the best weather on record in a long time, and what better way to enjoy it than to get out and about in the local community or soak up the rays in one of our gardens?

This blog shares a roundup of what we’ve been up to in our Exemplar Health Care homes throughout July.

Fun times in the garden

Male service user in the garden

Who can say no to a day in the garden with the lovely weather we’ve had this month? Daniel definitely can’t! He enjoyed spending time outside in the sunshine at our Longley Park View care home in Sheffield. He’s also been helping to water the plants whilst he’s there.

The Activities Team at Longley Park View got the paddling pool out to cool down. Sonya loved the water gun!

Male service user playing golf

At our Lakeview care home in Wigan, residents and colleagues have been getting into the swing of things on their new golf course.

The home is very lucky to have a beautiful big garden. After some of our residents said they were interested in playing golf, the home's Maintenance Technician, Paul, created an amazing mini golf course for all to enjoy.

This week, George putt the course to the test and teed off with a round in the sun.

In Bradford, our Wykewood residents and colleagues spent time nattering whilst planting some new flowers in pretty pots to give the garden a pop of colour for summer.

Female service user eating ice lolly

Whilst relaxing in the sunshine, residents have been cooling off with some ice lollies at our Bennett Court care home in Pontefract!

Saying "I do" again at St Andrew's Court

Male and female celebrating anniversary

Recently, the team at St Andrew’s Court care home in Hull hosted a lovely ceremony in the home’s garden for Terry and Denise to renew their wedding vows.

Activities Co-ordinator, Jayne, said “It was quite emotional with Denise repeating the original vows she made with Terry on their wedding day.”

Denise shared "Having the blessing outside on a glorious sunny day was so very special and the Activities Team decorated the summer house in the garden for our ceremony. The Vicar’s vision was far more than I could have hoped for, we had a renewal of our vows and a really beautiful service. It was a very very special day for us both."

"All the staff were so happy for us and made absolutely sure that Terry was looking his most handsome self! I felt so proud and grateful to everyone. Jayne took beautiful photo’s for us, which I have shared with our family and friends."

"Knowing how much St Andrew’s Court staff care for Terry and the kindness shown to us both is immeasurable and appreciated so much by our family."

Out and about in the local community

Male service user drinking beer

We’ve been doing a lot of exploring in our local communities this month.

Glyn from our Fairwinds care home in Rotherham took a trip to his local pub to enjoy a cheeky pint in the beer garden.

Service users out in the pub

Residents from Thames House enjoyed a boy’s night out in their local town centre, with lots of food, drinks and laughter.

Everybody had such a good night, they’re already planning the next one!

Service users gardening

Over at our Willowbeck care home in Sheffield, residents have returned to their community allotment for the first time in two years. The Activities Co-ordinator at the home shared “They’ve got a lot of catching up to do!”

Service users in wheelchairs next to a classic car

Our Greenside Court care home in Rotherham recently visited the Doncaster Classic Care and Bike Show, and Ricky, Simon and Sarah had lots of fun.

Activities Co-ordinator, Dawn, said “What our residents don’t know about cars and bike isn’t worth knowing, it’s astounding!”

We're all going on a summer holiday

Service users on the beach on holiday

A few close friends who live at Kingfisher View care home in Castleford recently enjoyed a weekend away in a lovely lodge.

They enjoyed shopping, visiting the each and eating out together – obviously fish and chips were a feature by the seaside!
