We’re delighted to announce that Adswood Lodge care home has been awarded Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA) ‘Quality Assured’ accreditation.

The HDA ‘Quality Assured’ programme identifies the behaviours, culture, and specialist services needed to deliver expert care for people affected by Huntington’s disease.

Adswood Lodge achieved the accreditation following a comprehensive assessment process, including feedback from families, colleagues and an independent review of its care.

The team marked the achievement with a celebration at the home, bringing colleagues, residents, and families together to recognise the milestone.

Recognised for compassionate, person-centred care

Feedback from the assessment highlighted the calm, respectful and person-centred approach taken by the Adswood Lodge team. One relative shared:

“Staff managed behaviour in a calm dignified manner and took time to build a relationship with him.”

Another family member also praised how the team responded to changes in their loved one’s needs, noting that staff recognised behavioural changes early and continued to manage these in a calm, dignified way while building trusted relationships.

Skilled teams with specialist knowledge

The report also highlighted the confidence and capability of the team in supporting people living with Huntington’s disease.

Colleagues said they feel well trained to support complex behaviours, and assessment feedback confirmed that both management and nursing teams have a strong understanding of the behavioural and cognitive changes associated with the condition.

This specialist knowledge enables the team to deliver tailored care that adapts as people’s needs change over time.

Strong, supportive relationships with families

Building meaningful relationships with families was identified as a key strength of the home. One family member said:

“We have a very good relationship with staff. They are always there to listen, explain things and share.”

They also shared that they feel comfortable speaking to staff across the home and, when visiting, feel:

  • Welcome

  • Valued

  • Respected

This reflects a culture of openness and partnership, ensuring families feel informed, supported and involved in care.

“A testament to our team’s expertise and compassion”

Sarah Lydon, Home Manager at Adswood Lodge, said:

“We’re incredibly proud to have achieved the Huntington’s Disease Association ‘Quality Assured’ accreditation.

“Our team is passionate about providing the highest quality care for people living with Huntington’s disease and supporting their families every step of the way.

“This recognition is a testament to the skill, dedication and compassion our colleagues show every day, and the strong relationships they build with the people we support.”
