What is adult specialist care?

Sometimes referred to as nursing care or complex care, adult specialist care refers to providing care and support for adults living with specific complex medical conditions or disabilities. Exemplar Health Care is a leading provider of specialist care for adults living with complex needs.

Adult specialist care services support people who are living with a range of complex conditions and disabilities, and who require specialist care from trained Nurses and Health Care Assistants. This may include people who have an acquired brain injury, spinal injury, neuro-disability, learning disability and/or autism, or complex mental health needs

Adult specialist care may also involve supporting people who have high dependency nursing needs, such as those who use a ventilator, have a tracheostomy, use PEG feeding or require Hickman/central line management.

Adult specialist care requires specialist teams

All of our care homes are led by qualified Registered Nurses and supported by Health Care Assistants, Therapists and Life Skills Facilitators. Exemplar Health Care also has an in-house team of clinical specialists and a Mental Health and Behaviour Support Team.

This expertise ensures that our colleagues have the skills and knowledge to support people with specialist care needs.

Specialist training

All Exemplar Health Care colleagues receive specialist training to ensure that they’re competent and confident to provide the highest standards of care for our residents.

Our dedicated Learning and Organisational Development Team has designed a bespoke induction for all new colleagues, as well as delivering in-house training across a range of topics.

Our training draws on expertise from across the company, including our Clinical Team and Health and Safety Team. Where possible, training is tailored to the residents in our homes.

For individuals who display behaviours of concern, our Behavioural Support Team works with care home colleagues to explore the reasons for the behaviour, and put strategies in place to reduce the duration and frequency of these incidents.

We have systems in place to keep training up-to-date and continually assess competence, so you can be reassured that our colleagues are trained to provide specialist complex needs care.

Our person-centred approach to care

Our approach to care focuses on the person – not their condition or disability.

When you get in touch with us, our dedicated Referrals Team will talk you through your options and help you to find the right specialist care service.

Once we’ve agreed a placement, our experienced Care Team will work with individuals, and professionals, to identify their goals and outline the holistic care needed to achieve them.

Our approach to care focuses on maximising independence, building everyday living skills and empowering people to live as fulfilled lives as possible.

How much does our care cost?

The cost of our care homes depends on the type of care that people require. When you make an enquiry, one of our Clinical Assessors will do an assessment to identify the support that the individual needs to meet their goals, and provide a costing report.
