Planning permission granted for our new care home in Wallasey
23 June 2021
We're pleased to announce that planning permission has been granted to build a new specialist nursing home for adults living with complex needs in Wallasey.
The new home, named 'Edgewater' will open in summer 2022, and will support 30 adults for living with acquired brain injuries, spinal injuries, stroke and complex physical disabilities and mental health conditions.
The home will have 30 large bedrooms - each with an en-suite wet room and include a communal hub, living and dining spaces for residents and their friends and family to socialise. And the communal hub space can be accessed and rented by local community groups.
Charlotte Lloyd, Commissioning Director at Exemplar Health Care, shares:
“We’re pleased to announce we are investing in a 30-bed specialist care home for the Wallasey area.
“This community-based home will provide person-centered care and rehabilitation that focuses on maximising independence, building everyday living skills, and empowering people to live as fulfilled lives as possible.
“It is extremely rewarding to be able to support 30 local people with complex health needs, and to provide over 100 stable and local jobs. As well as providing employment opportunities, there are plans in place to help Edgewater become part of the local community. It’s our ambition for Edgewater to be a place where we host community events, and where our residents can be part of the community, whether through work placements, local events or volunteering.”
Plans for the home
We’re working with reputable pre-application Planning Advisors and Architects to ensure that the design of the building is in keeping with the local area, whilst also meeting the needs of the residents who will live in the home.
We're pleased to share the initial site plan proposals with you:
Exemplar Health Care has 32 complex needs care homes across England.
Our community-based homes provide person-centred care and rehabilitation that focuses on maximising independence, building everyday living skills and empowering people to live as fulfilled lives as possible.
We support people on their journey from being in hospital to community-based living, as well as offering longer term support for people living with degenerative or life-limiting illnesses.
We’re proud that our homes have a strong connection with their local community, including schools, colleges and charities. We also support and source local businesses for services such as window cleaning, taxis and garden maintenance – so we hope to work with many of you over the coming years.
Careers with Exemplar Health Care
Edgewater will create a substantial number of jobs during the construction phase of the works and in excess of 100 full and part time jobs when the home is operational. Register your interest in a role at Edgewater and we'll email you when they become available - this is likely to be Spring 2022.
