Residents and colleagues across Exemplar Health Care have been spreading the love throughout February. Everybody enjoyed preparing for and celebrating Valentine’s Day, making and flipping pancakes for Pancake Day and having lots of fun inside and outside of our homes.
Spreading the love
Valentine’s Day is the annual celebration of romance and love. This year, our residents and care teams have celebrated love in its broader sense, expanding to those they’ve built relationships with, whether that’s partners, friends, family members or even our colleagues.
Our teams enjoyed preparing for Valentine’s Day by making cards in their arts and crafts sessions.
Maypole Grove care home in Birmingham held a flower arranging session, and gifted the arrangements to their family and friends as well as placing them around the home.
Residents at Lakeview kept with the flower theme, and all received a red rose from the Activities Team, which included a verse written by Activities Team Leader, Susan, which read: “Roses are red. Violets are blue. Everyone loves you, here at Lakeview.”
There was love in the air at Longley Park View, who all wore red or pink to celebrate the day of love, and two residents, Ken and Margaret, enjoyed a romantic dinner for two.
Perfecting cooking skills
There’s something inherently sweet about baking that goes beyond the reward of a tasty treat.
The sensation of ingredients in the hands, or the delicious smell of freshly baked goods, engage the senses in a way that’s beneficial for those living in our homes.
There’s been lots of cooking practice in our kitchens this month.
Neil at our Yarningdale care home decided to bake some delicious banana bread and some chocolate chip cookies for their tea and talk morning.
Food has a great way of bringing people together, and at Lakeview, Jim and one of his buddies decided to cook themselves some lunch and made meatballs and spaghetti!
National Pizza Day was celebrated by a lot of our homes, where residents created their own pizzas, including choosing their own toppings and design.
A flipping good time
Rob and Matthew enjoyed a lovely pancake and cup of tea in the local community at their local Methodist Church.
Exploring local communities
Tony from our newly opened care home, Edgewater, had a lovely day out visiting the Great Manchester Transport Museum.
He’s wanted to visit for a long time, but his previous placement were unable to accommodate this, so we’re delighted he finally got his wish granted.
Tony enjoyed seeing all the old buses at the museum and seeing all the big lorries on the drive there.
