The team at Woolston House care home in Warrington are celebrating after being rated ‘Good’ in all five areas by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), marking the achievement with a party alongside residents and families.

Following its first comprehensive inspection, the home achieved ‘Good’ ratings for Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led, highlighting the strength of its nurse-led, person-centred care for adults living with complex needs.

Person-centred care that promotes independence

Inspectors found that care at Woolston House is tailored to each individual, with strong focus on personal goals, preferences and daily routines.

People are actively involved in decisions about their care and the running of the home, with feedback from residents and families leading to continuous improvements.

This approach supports people to build confidence, develop skills and live as independently as possible, with staff taking time to understand what matters most to each person.

One person said: “I really like it here. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else”.

“They are good staff here. They can't do enough for you. The physio here is good, they are all good.”

Meaningful lifestyles and community connection

The report highlights how people are supported to stay active, pursue their interests and remain connected to their communities.

Residents told inspectors they are supported to do the things they enjoy, while relatives described the home as a place where people are “really listened to".

“We’re incredibly proud to have achieved a ‘Good’ rating across all five domains in our first inspection, reflecting the dedication of our team and our commitment to improving everyday life for the people we support.

“I’m especially proud of how the team has supported residents to enjoy holidays and create meaningful memories. We’ve worked hard to build a home where people feel heard and involved, and we’re excited to keep building on this success.”
