Appleton Unit
Appleton Unit supports younger working-age adults in the early stages of neurological conditions such as Huntington’s disease or acquired brain injuries, whose primary presentation is behavioural and mental health symptoms.
People may also have co-occurring physical health needs such as bladder and bowel conditions, mobility or speech impairments, cognitive decline, and clinical interventions like PEGs or catheters.
With both General and Mental Health Nurses on the team, Appleton provides integrated care that bridges the gap between traditional neuro and mental health services.
Appleton is an active, recovery-focused environment that promotes meaningful occupation, emotional wellbeing, cognitive support, and functional independence - building the foundation for future care and improved quality of life.
Paddington Unit
Paddington Unit supports older adults living with complex mental health needs linked to degenerative neurological conditions, who may display behaviours of concern and have co-occurring physical health needs.
Our team includes both General and Mental Health Nurses, supported by an in-house Physiotherapist, enabling joined-up care that goes beyond the scope of mainstream services or condition-specific settings.
Our model focuses on maintaining function, independence, and emotional wellbeing for as long as possible.
As conditions progress, we work closely with individuals and their families to adapt care plans, initiate advanced care planning, and ensure dignity and comfort throughout their end of life.
Walton Unit
Walton Unit supports older adults living with complex needs associated with advanced dementia, including behaviours of concern and significant physical health challenges.
Our multidisciplinary team - including General and Mental Health Nurses - provides holistic care that goes beyond what’s typically available in mainstream residential settings.
Staffing and observation levels are adjusted based on individual need and risk - for example, where someone is at risk of falls, absconding, or needs time to settle in.
We have a strong track record of supporting individuals who’ve experienced one or more failed placements, providing a stable, consistent environment where trust can be built and care tailored to each person’s changing needs.
Over time, individuals typically show a reduction in behaviours and observation as they settle into the unit.
The environment is thoughtfully designed in line with the University of Stirling’s ‘Environments for Ageing and Dementia Design Assessment Tool (EADDAT),’ creating a space that promotes comfort, independence, and overall wellbeing.
Due to the progressive nature of dementia, we support person-led advanced care planning, as well as palliative and end-of-life care, ensuring each person’s wishes are known and respected.
