Stephen at Havenmere marks Remembrance Day by walking 24 miles in 11 days!

Stephen, who lives at our Havenmere care home in Immingham, has walked 24 miles in 11 days to fundraise for the British Legion’s 11/11 challenge for Remembrance Day.

Stephen started the challenge on 1 November, finishing his first one-mile walk in the area around the home.

Over the coming days, Stephen felt like walking further – achieving more than double his original goal!

The 11/11 challenge at the British Legion, the country’s largest armed forces charity, is aimed at all ages and tasks people with any challenge they feel they can take on –such as baking 11 cupcakes, knitting 11 poppies, or in Stephen’s case, walking 11 miles (or more).

Stephen has always been a big supporter of the British Legion and enjoys long walks. So the challenge was the perfect opportunity for Stephen to raise money for a cause that’s close to his heart - and to get out in the great outdoors.

“I feel really good, and very proud,” said Stephen. Although, he added, ‘“my legs ache a bit.”

“I’ve supported the British Legion for years, I used to attend Remembrance Day every year.”

Having completed the challenge, Stephen’s now got plans to do a healthy eating plan, with a goal to lose weight. His Care Team are providing support.

Everyone at Havenmere is very proud of you Stephen, keep up the good work!
