St Andrew’s Court, our specialist complex needs care home in Hull is now officially open

This week, Exemplar Health Care officially opened our first Hull complex needs care home, St Andrew’s Court, with the support of a very important local dignitary.

The Lord Mayor of Hull, Councillor Steve Wilson, cut a ceremonial ribbon and unveiled a commemorative plaque, marking the official opening of the home. St Andrew's Court underwent a £2.5 million refurbishment to meet the needs of adults with complex health care needs. The home supports adults who live with conditions including dementia, mental health conditions, physical and neuro-disabilities, brain injury and stroke.

During his visit to the new care home, the Lord Mayor met St Andrew’s Court’s service users, toured around the new home, and spoke with the home's care team. They were joined by the Commissioning Home Director, Kath Dye, colleagues and their families.

Comfortable living

Laid out over two floors, and with a two-bedroom house next door, St Andrew’s Court can support up to 20 adults. The home comprises 18 large, airy bedrooms, each with an en-suite. The care home includes two dining rooms, several communal living areas and a landscaped garden designed by young local volunteers from Youth in Nature, a lottery-funded wildlife organisation.

St Andrew’s Court also benefits from our reablement pathway, OneCare, which is a two-bedroom house adjacent to the care home where individuals are supported to live more independently through rehabilitation and enabling activities.

‘Absolutely delighted’

The Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull, Steve Wilson, said: “I am absolutely delighted to be here for the opening of St Andrew’s Court. The team at Exemplar Health Care have done a fantastic job in converting the care home to such a high standard, and it’s fantastic to see so many locals working and supporting the care home.

“I had the opportunity to take a tour and to see firsthand that every room is personalised and tailored to each service user, and that the care workers and nurses are committed to offering the best care.

St Andrew’s Court represents the future of all care homes and the service users are so deserving of a home like this one.

‘It really means the world to us’

Kath Dye, Commissioning Home Director of St Andrew's Court, said: “We’re so thrilled to have opened St Andrew’s Court and to have received a warm welcome from the Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull.

“Our goal at St Andrew’s Court was to employ as many local people as possible – and we are pleased that we have been able to retain existing staff as well as recruiting local nurses, carers and using businesses associated to the previous home and the local area.
