Adswood Lodge official opening

The Mayor of Stockport has officially opened the doors of Adswood Lodge, the first Exemplar Health Care home in Stockport.

Adswood Lodge supports up to 30 adults living with complex and high acuity needs.

Previously, due to a lack of services in the Greater Manchester region, local people were living in unsuitable services that didn’t meet their care needs. Adswood Lodge was built to meet this demand for high quality, local nursing care and support for younger adults living with acquired brain injuries.

The Mayor was invited to Adswood Lodge for a special opening ceremony at the newly built care home on Adswood Lane West.

After taking a tour of the home and meeting some of the new residents, the Mayor cut the ribbon and declared Adswood Lodge officially open.

The Mayor spent the afternoon talking to the care home staff and expressed his gratitude for their dedication to residents.

Commenting on his visit, Councillor Graham Greenhalgh, Mayor of Stockport said, “I had the privilege of touring the new Adswood Lodge nursing home in Stockport, which is an impressive home operated by Exemplar Health Care.

“It offers a wide array of facilities from bespoke private rooms to communal lounges for the residents. I was particularly impressed with the health facilities such as spa baths, treatment rooms and a dedicated clinic.

“The staff were a wonderfully caring group who offer a full-service 24-hour support. This is a shining example of the care services now available in Stockport.”

“Welcoming and nurturing atmosphere”

Adswood Lodge supports adults living with complex mental health needsneuro-disabilities including brain injuries and strokes, and physical disabilities

The people we support at Adswood Lodge often have a number of secondary diagnoses and complexities including behaviours of concern, tracheostomies, ventilators and PEG feeding tubes.

Many of the people who are now living in Adswood Lodge have come from care settings that were unable to meet their care needs. Without Adswood Lodge, people living with complex care needs would otherwise have a pro-longed stay in hospital, away from their family and friends.

Sarah Lydon, Home Manager at Adswood Lodge, said: “I’m delighted to officially open our doors to the people of Stockport. We aim to make every day better for our residents by providing person-centred care that maximises independence, builds everyday living skills, and empowers people to live as fulfilled lives as possible.”

“We are proud to have an exceptional team of colleagues who share a deep passion for providing excellent care and fostering a welcoming and nurturing atmosphere. Our utmost priority is collaborating with local health and social care professionals, our valued residents, their families, and the broader community. By doing so, we want to ensure that the people we support have their complex needs met within the comfort of their community.”

Take a look around Adswood Lodge

Adswood Lodge is a purpose-built care home on the site of a locally listed former public house, Adswood Hotel.

From the outside, Adswood Lodge doesn’t look like a traditional care home. The front façade of the early 20th century hotel was retained and built around. The design of the new parts of the building remain in keeping with the local area, whilst also meeting the needs of the residents living in the home.

We’ve found that smaller group living provides a more homely, supportive and responsive care environment. Therefore, Adswood Lodge is split into three, ten-bed communities, and each of the 30 large bedrooms has its own en-suite wet room.

We thoughtfully designed rooms to promote the creation of close-knit communities within the home. As a result, each of the units feature communal dining areas, living spaces and sensory bathrooms.

Designed to meet the specific needs of the people living there, the home includes a hairdressing and beauty salon, therapy room, activities hub, multi-faith area and access to private landscaped gardens.

"No stone un-turned in designing every aspect of Adswood Lodge"

Helen Lawson, Commissioning Manager at Exemplar Health Care, said: “We have left no stone un-turned in designing every aspect of Adswood Lodge. The home caters to the specific needs of residents, we even called on the help of our Service User Council, comprised of resident representatives from our other homes, who made sure the home would meet the needs of people who will now live here.

“This ethos runs throughout Exemplar Health Care’s approach to providing care, as we work in partnership with our residents to make sure every day is better and they can lead fulfilling lives.

“We are confident Adswood Lodge will make a positive difference to the lives of many people in the local area, supporting adults with complex care needs to remain close to their loved ones whilst receiving exceptional support from a range of health and care professionals.”
