Recently, one of our Health Care Assistants at Scotia Heights care home in Stoke-on-Trent, Debbie, decided to step up and Brave the Shave in support of the Little Princess Trust.
The Little Princess Trust provides free real hair wigs to children and young people, up to 24 years, who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions. They use hair donations and fundraising monies sent in by amazing supporters, to manufacture and fit beautiful real hair wigs.
The Little Princess Trust has supplied over 8000 wigs to children and young people and have invested circa £5 million into ground-breaking childhood cancer research so far.
In order to donate your hair, it must be longer than seven inches. To be able to Brave the shave and support the Little Princess Trust, Debbie has been growing her hair for two years.
When the time came, Scotia Heights organised a barn dance in the courtyard and everybody came along to support Debbie and collect donations for charity.
Colleagues sponsored Debbie for the shave and a raffle was also held to decide who would get the honour of performing the head shave.
A cake sale was also organised by Debbie’s colleagues in the Portmeirion Unit at Scotia Heights and raised £30.
Debbie has raised £482.77 so far and the total is still increasing. The money is being donated to the Douglas MacMillan Hospice in Stoke-on-Trent, as a thank you for the work they do with our residents and their families.
Debbie said "Thank you to everyone who sponsored me and for all the support".
As a charity that receives no formal funding, the Little Princess Trust rely solely on the generosity of their supporters to fundraise or make a donation. If you’d like to make a donation to the charity, you can find out more information here.
