We’re proud to announce the opening of Wytham Lodge, our newest care home, in Padiham, Lancashire.
Our 54th home and the first in Padiham, Wytham Lodge brings our trusted model of nurse-led complex care services into Lancashire.
The home opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by The Town of Padiham Mayor, Councillor Alun Lewis.
The Councillor expressed gratitude to the dedicated team for their commitment to residents. In addition, he noted Exemplar Health Care's commitment to the community, highlighting the need for care services in the area for people with complex needs:
“Wytham Lodge is a fantastic addition to our community. It’s a great place for people who need complex care and has created valuable employment opportunities for locals who want to make a difference.”

The Councillor was invited by Home Manager, Shannon O’Dea and Regional Director of Operations, Barry Swire, who both gave heartfelt speeches to celebrate the occasion.
The day was attended by colleagues from the home, Exemplar Health Care’s Executive Team, suppliers, and service users, all coming together to recognise the important role Wytham Lodge will play in the community.
A new home designed for the people we support
Wytham Lodge is purpose-built to support adults living with complex needs arising from mental health conditions, neuro-disabilities including brain injuries, and physical health conditions. The home offers a welcoming, homely environment designed to promote both independence and therapeutic support.
The home is split into three small units, each with ten bedrooms. This enables us to foster smaller group living, which research shows improves outcomes by creating a sense of familiarity, safety, and consistency.
Each unit has its own dedicated living and dining areas. Giving people space to relax, socialise, or spend quiet time as they choose. Every bedroom is spacious, fully furnished, and has an en-suite wet room, providing both comfort and dignity.
Beyond the bedrooms, the home provides sensory spaces, communal lounges, and accessible outdoor areas, where people can enjoy fresh air, engage in gardening, or take part in meaningful activities.
The layout is designed with flexibility in mind, adaptable to meet a wide range of needs and support individuals through different stages of complex care.
Meeting high-acuity needs in a community-based setting
Wytham Lodge was developed to offer an alternative to hospital or institutional placements.
The people we support often have needs that cannot be met in traditional residential care settings. They may have experienced placement breakdowns, multiple hospital admissions, or long stays in unsuitable environments.
Our care model at Wytham Lodge is nurse-led. Each unit is supported by Registered Nurses, including general, mental health, and learning disability nurses. The team comprises experienced Health Care Assistants, Therapy Assistants, and Unit Managers.
Our multi-disciplinary approach also includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and access to a Consultant Psychiatrist, Dysphagia Consultant, Lead Physiotherapist, and Speech and Language Therapist.
Through our multidisciplinary approach, robust assessments, and needs-based staffing levels, we ensure that every individual receives the right care, from the right team, at the right time - helping to reduce hospital admissions, prevent placement breakdowns, and improve long-term health outcomes.
A growing presence in the North West
With the opening of Wytham Lodge, we’re proud to expand our footprint in the North West.
We bring much-needed capacity to a region with increasing demand for specialist complex care.
The home strengthens our ability to support people locally, while giving referrers more choice when it comes to finding sustainable, long-term placements that don’t compromise on quality.
And we’re not stopping here. Wytham Lodge is part of our wider commitment to invest in communities across the UK by developing modern, community-based services that deliver better outcomes for people with high acuity needs.
For referrers, case managers, and funders looking for a partner in complex care, Wytham Lodge offers a clinically-led service, backed by Exemplar Health Care’s 25 years of experience in the sector.
