This week, the Mayor of Stockton-on-Tees officially opened Tees Grange, our first care home in the market town.
The rain didn’t dampen spirits as residents gathered to mark the celebration. They were joined by their families, commissioners, neighbours and local businesses.
Councillor Jim Beall cut a ceremonial ribbon and unveil a plaque to mark the day. He was invited to take a tour of the home and commented on the commitment and enthusiasm of the friendly and caring staff. He shared: "Having started my long career in social care as a Care Assistant, I was particularly pleased to attend the opening of Tees Grange care home in Norton.
"Thanks to John, one of the first residents, for assisting me in cutting the ribbon and unveiling the plaque. I was given the opportunity to have a good look round this extremely well-appointed new-build home and was suitably impressed.
This will be a valuable service providing nurse-led care for adults with complex needs and well as providing welcome jobs for local residents and benefits for local suppliers.
A gift from above
Catherine Pearson, Home Manager, at Tees Grange said:
“I am thrilled to open our doors to the people of Stockton, providing a much needed, new care service to the region. Our aim is to make every day better for our residents by providing person-centred care that focuses on maximising independence, building everyday living skills, and empowering people to live as fulfilled lives as possible.”
“Our utmost priority is to collaborate closely with local health and social care professionals, our valued residents, their families, and the broader community. By doing so, we aim to ensure that people receive unparalleled nurse-led care and have their complex needs met within the comfort of their own community.”
One family member of a resident, who spoke to the Mayor on his tour of the home, shared:
It feels like a gift from above.
About Tees Grange
Tees Grange, based on Norton Road in Stockton-on-Tees, supports adults living with complex and high acuity needs.
The home supports those living with a brain injury, neuro disability, spinal injury, complex mental health needs and dementia. Without Tees Grange, residents – who have challenging care needs – would otherwise have a pro-longed stay in hospital, away from their family and friends.
The home was developed by Watson Batty Architects and Walter Thompson Contractors to bring this much needed service to the area.
The opening of Tees Grange has created 100 new healthcare jobs in the local area. Unlike many other local care homes, it features a multi-disciplinary healthcare team. The home has already recruited a mix of care, nursing and therapeutic specialists roles.
Through this multi-disciplinary, specialist team, people living at Tees Grange will be able to access the full range of clinical and holistic care they need. The new staff team also prides itself on providing person-centred care and empowering residents to maximise their independence. Each resident’s care is based on their healthcare needs and in a way that works for them, providing the support they need to live fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

We’ve found that smaller group living provides a more homely, supportive, and responsive care environment.
Therefore, Tees Grange is split in to three, ten-bed communities, and each of the 30 large bedrooms has its own ensuite wet room.
The units feature communal dining and living spaces and sensory bathrooms.
Residents also have use of an activities hub and a large accessible garden to enjoy.
