Scotia Heights resident, Robert, enjoyed a long weekend in Chesterfield, his first holiday in 20 years.
It was an extra special trip as Robert was able to visit his old parish church, where he last took communion 13 years ago.
Since moving to Scotia Heights care home in Stoke-on-Trent, Robert regularly talks about Chesterfield St Mary and All Saints Parish Church.
Robert used to frequently visit the church, and it’s a place that’s very special to him.
It’s been a goal of Roberts to revisit the church that means so much to him, and we’re proud to be able to support him to do this.
Health Care Assistants, Prince and Michael, joined Robert on the trip, ensuring that his care and health needs continued to be met whilst enjoying his weekend away.
They had a jam-packed weekend, starting on the Saturday with a walk around town, a lager in the pub and a shopping trip.
On Sunday, Robert attended church in the morning and took part in communion for the first time in 13 years, which was arranged with the Church Warden beforehand to consider his mobility needs. Robert said this was “the highlight of the trip”.
After all of the exploring around town, the team enjoyed a well-deserved breakfast on the Monday morning before packing and driving home.
Robert shared: “I enjoyed my holiday trip. It’s sad that we have to go back so soon. Next time I’d like to stay for ten nights!”
Health Care Assistant, Prince, said: “We’re proud that we were able to support Robert to realise his dream holiday.”
Michael added: “Just to see him smile was priceless. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
