There was a real sense of celebration in the air last week as we officially opened the doors to Leger Grove. The home is our newest purpose-built care home designed to support adults with complex care needs.
To mark the occasion, we were joined by colleagues, residents, their family, and building contractors - all coming together to celebrate the start of a new chapter in providing exceptional, person-centred care.
A special guest visits Leger Grove
The highlight of the day was our special guest, Leanne Gill.
Leanne is a Regional Service User Ambassador from Quarryfields in Balby, another Exemplar Health Care home.
We invited Leanne, giving her the honour of unveiling a plaque and cutting the ceremonial ribbon to declare the home officially open.
It was a fitting moment that reflected our commitment to person-centred care and co-production at the heart of everything we do.
Leanne also helps to lead the Service User Council. The Council brings together people who live in Exemplar Health Care homes to share their experiences and ideas, helping to shape how the organisation delivers its care and support.
A dedicated team ready to make a difference
Guests enjoyed guided tours of the home, which has been carefully designed to offer both comfort and clinical excellence.
Our team were on hand throughout the day, proudly sharing their vision for creating a warm and supportive environment.
Victoria Watson, Home Manager at Leger Grove care home, said: “I am deeply committed to creating an environment that fosters inclusivity and empowerment, and I am certain the home will have a profoundly positive impact as we support more people in a homely setting they can truly make their own.
“The whole team wants to create a warm and vibrant community where individuals can thrive, families can find support, and where compassionate care is at the forefront of everything we do.
Leger Grove: purpose-built for complex care within a community environment
The new home is the result of an extensive refurbishment of the former Benbow pub, which began in February 2024.
Leger Grove care home is Exemplar Health Care’s twelfth home in South Yorkshire and supports adults living with dementia, mental health conditions, neuro-disabilities, and physical disabilities.
The home has large spacious, accessible bedrooms and bright communal spaces with state-of-the-art facilities.
Every detail has been thoughtfully designed to help the people we support live fulfilling, meaningful lives.

Building connections and looking ahead
As the celebrations drew to a close, there was a shared sense of excitement about the future.
Katie Capes, Commissioning Manager at Exemplar Health Care, said: “We’re thrilled to announce the grand opening of our state-of-the-art care home in Doncaster. This new home breathes new life into the local community and local economy, and embodies our commitment to providing exceptional care and support to those living with complex care needs.
“We know our service offering is in high demand for individuals and families in the local area and our dedicated team is looking forward to working with Commissioners, Social Workers, and families to make a positive difference to people that need long term nursing care and support.”
