Love is in the air! Stoke-on-Trent care home helps couple celebrate 44th wedding anniversary

Cyril and Val celebrated 44 years of marriage with a special party organised by the team at Scotia Heights care home in Stoke-on-Trent.

The team at Scotia Heights helped resident, Cyril, to organise a special party for wife, Val, to celebrate their 44th wedding anniversary.

To mark the special occasion, the team on Aynsley Unit, where Cyril lives, contacted his daughter and called on the help of the home’s Activities and Catering Teams to plan the surprise.

Together, they ordered the decorations, planned the food and bought a special anniversary gift.

On the morning of their anniversary, Cyril took a trip out for a fresh haircut to ensure he looked his best for the occasion.

Rebecca Hyland, Clinical Nurse Manager at Scotia Heights, shares: “When the team noticed that Cyril’s anniversary was coming up, they asked him if he wanted to plan something special for the day.

“It was fantastic that we could help Cyril, Val and their family to celebrate their anniversary.

“It was a full team effort, with everyone getting involved.

"I’m incredibly proud to be able to say that I work with such caring colleagues, who really do go above and beyond to make every day better for the people we support here at Scotia Heights.”

"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts"

Cyril and Val’s daughter, Helen, shared her thanks on behalf of the family: “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the huge effort you put into mum and dad’s 44th wedding anniversary celebration.

“To arrive at the home to cake, cards, gifts and food was totally overwhelming and none of us knew quite how to react; we were speechless! Dad had even been for a trip out to the barber’s for a fresh trim. He looked lovely.

“This isn’t the first time that colleagues have gone above and beyond for us as a family either; we’re continually treated as both family and friends and made to feel welcome at every visit.

“We always thought dad going into a home would be a devastating loss, but what we’ve gained is also immeasurable. We have a whole new group of both friends and family. We love you for loving dad.

“The effort put into this occasion was unbelievable. Thank you for this and everything else you do for us all as a family.”
