Dearnevale has once again been named one of the Top 20 care homes in Yorkshire and the Humber by carehome.co.uk.

It’s the ninth year in a row the home has achieved this recognition - highlighting its ongoing commitment to high-quality care and support.

The award is based entirely on reviews from residents and their families over the past 12 months.

With an overall score of 10/10 and 64 reviews, Dearnevale continues to be highly rated by the people who know it best.

Feedback that speaks for itself

The reviews highlight the home’s caring, person-centred approach and the strength of its team.

One sister shared:

“I cannot praise Dearnevale enough. From the activities team to nurses and all the care staff, you all do an amazing job.

"We’re always confident that my sister is happy and well looked after. She’s been so, so happy since moving in, and we’re really thankful for that.”

Another review said:

“My friend never truly felt like he belonged until he came to Dearnevale.

"They became a family to him, and I’m truly grateful for giving him that sense of belonging and support, especially in the final parts of his life.

"Dearnevale truly is the most outstanding home with the most outstanding team.”

Recognised for quality

Alongside its Top 20 award, Dearnevale holds an ‘Outstanding’ rating from Care Quality Commission.

The home has also achieved ‘Quality Assured’ status from the Huntington's Disease Association and received the Quality Hallmark Award from the Gold Standards Framework, recognising its commitment to high-quality end-of-life care.

These accreditations reflect a clear focus on dignity, respect, and individualised support.

As one relative put it:

“From the minute you walk through the door it feels like a second home. Everyone treats me and my family with such respect and friendliness.

"The care they give my husband Paul and others is second to none, treating every person with individuality, respect, and dignity.

"I don’t know where I’d be without them. I call them Paul’s Angels.”

100% satisfaction from residents and families

The home’s most recent service user and family survey results were equally strong.

100% of residents said:

  • staff are kind and respectful

  • they’re happy with their care and support

  • they feel listened to

  • they feel safe living in the home.

And 100% of families said:

  • they’re happy with the care provided

  • they’re involved in decisions

  • they feel comfortable raising concerns

  • they’d recommend the home to others.

A team that makes it happen

The positive feedback isn’t just from residents and families.

In this year’s colleague survey, Dearnevale achieved some of the highest scores across the organisation, showing just how engaged and committed the team is.

  • 100% of colleagues said they’re happy to go the extra mile for service users

  • 99% said their job gives them a sense of purpose and achievement

  • 99% agreed that the team works well together and supports each other when needed.

That strong team culture, with many team members having worked at the home for over a decade, is a big part of what makes the home successful.

Home Manager, Helen McGowan, said:

“I’m incredibly proud of everyone at Dearnevale.

"This award means so much because it’s based on feedback from the people who matter most - our residents and their families.

"To know they’ve taken the time to share such positive experiences is incredibly special.

"It reassures us that the care and compassion the team shows every day really does make a difference.”
