Exemplar Health Care’s first Regional Ambassadors have received a special award to recognise the difference they’ve made by ensuring residents’ voices are heard, shaping university courses, and presenting their life stories and experiences of living in a care home at external events.

The award celebrates their leadership, their commitment to representing their peers, and their role in making sure residents are involved in shaping their care.

About the Regional Service User Ambassador role

Our Service User Ambassadors take on roles in their home, act as peer support for other residents and represent their views at regional councils. They also get involved in co-produced initiatives and projects at home, regional, and organisational level.

Regional Ambassadors take this one step further - they represent the Service User Ambassadors in their region and attend key events such as ‘An audience with the Exec’ and Clinical Nurse Manager forums, sharing insights directly with senior leaders to support the continued improvement of care.

Hearing from our Regional Ambassadors

Adam, from Greenside Court, is one of our longest-serving Ambassadors, with eight years of experience.

He shared: “I can’t believe how involved residents are in making the homes better. I’m so grateful to be able to help others like me.”

Alex, from Maypole Grove, has also been an Ambassador for many years and helped create the Regional Ambassador role alongside Sophia, Service User Engagement Manager, and Adam.

Alex shared: “It gives you a sense of purpose, knowing you’re helping others.”

Sharing insights, feedback, and personal stories

Both Adam and Alex have also represented Exemplar Health Care externally, presenting at sector events including Nursing Live, and most recently at Sheffield Hallam University’s ‘Simulation Day’ for first year students on their Nursing (Learning Disability) and Social Work course, alongside several Exemplar Health Care nursing colleagues.

They supported a number of activities throughout the day, including a role play activity where students had to support an admission into a care home, gathering information from the individual to inform their care.

They also shared their life stories and experiences of living in a care home and supported a Q&A session about social care nursing.

A thank you to our Regional Ambassadors

Sophia, Service User Engagement Manager, works closely with the Regional Ambassadors, supporting and empowering them to take part in important meetings and events. She shared:

“The Regional Ambassador’s influence is widely felt.

“They’re admired by peers, have made a real impact on colleagues and residents alike, and exemplify what leadership through collaboration looks like.

“I’m incredibly proud to celebrate their achievements.”

We now have six Regional Ambassadors, with one more in training, continuing to build a strong team to champion people’s voices across the organisation.
