Every day our Activities Coordinators bring energy, creativity and connection into the lives of the people they support.
From sparking conversations and encouraging new interests, to creating moments of joy and belonging. Their work plays a vital part in each of our homes.
National Activity Providers and Professionals Week is an opportunity to recognise the positive impact our Activities Coordinators make, not just through activities, but through the relationships they build, and the sense of purpose they help create every day.
What is an Activities Coordinator?
Activities Coordinators are at the heart of daily life in our homes.
They design activities that reflect the people we supports personal interests and goals.
From group events that foster laughter and community spirit, to one-to-one moments that build confidence and drive achievements, they create experiences that truly make every day better.
To celebrate the difference they make, we asked some of our teams to tell us about their standout moments from the last year.
Making memories at the musicals
When George came to Laurel Place, he mentioned to Activities Coordinator, Nina, that he was a huge musical theatre fan.
Always looking to create person-centred moments, Nina and the team quickly began work to support George in regaining his confidence in busier places and identify shows he’d like to see.
Last year he was able to tick three must see shows off of his list - Hamilton, Mary Poppins and Miss Saigon! George loves the excitement of planning, booking and attending these shows.
“Since going I’ve had much more confidence when I’m out in the community. We’ve just booked Blood Brothers and I can’t wait!”
Seeing these achievements and helping people reconnect with previous hobbies is one of the things Nina loves most about her role.
“I’m so proud of George. We’ve created a lovely bond, and supporting him has sparked my enjoyment for musicals! We often find ourselves singing along to our favourite songs. It’s just been so great to see.”
Going to see the sea
Supporting people to achieve goals is high on the list for any Activities Coordinator, which is why the Activities Team at Greenside Court sprang into action when Julie and Ricky said they wanted to go to the beach.
Both Julie and Ricky hadn’t visited a beach in over 15 years, so the team wanted to make sure their visit was extra special.
Working together, they planned a holiday to Blackpool. Joined by fellow resident Dave, they planned to see the sea, dance the night away at the Bond Hotel, and use way too many 2p coins on the slot machines.
The trip was a huge success, and one that will no doubt be repeated!

Building friendships as well as muscles
Asking Sarah, Activities Coordinator at Yarningdale, to choose her standout moment from the last year was incredibly hard, there were just too many to choose from!
One of her favourite moments came when Neil expressed an interest in going back to the gym.
With a long-term goal of gaining muscle, strength and a healthy routine, Sarah supported Neil in taking the first step in joining the Lion’s Den Boxing Club.
He’s now a regular and has his own personal trainer! He’s even met boxing star Frazer Clarke who also trains there.
“I honestly consider myself to have the best job in the world.”
Sarah said, “Seeing the smiles and laughter on the faces of people we support, and knowing I’ve made a difference to their day is so rewarding. It’s an absolute pleasure to be able to do such exciting and meaningful activities.”

Every moment matters
Every interest, every goal and every moment matters to our Activities Coordinators.
From setting up pubs and helping reconnect with families, to home parties and visits from mobile zoos - there’s always something happening in our homes, and we have our incredible Activities Teams to thank for that.
