“A place that believed in my brother when others didn’t”
This case study is written by Niall, who shares his experience of his brother moving to Greenacre Park and the difference it has made to their lives.

After a life-changing brain injury, my brother Kieran spent years in care homes that couldn’t meet his complex needs. Each move brought hope - and disappointment.

Everything changed when he moved to Greenacre Park.

Today, he’s more sociable, more engaged, and more himself than I ever thought possible again.

When care homes aren’t the right fit

Before his injury, Kieran lived with his wife and was looking forward to becoming a dad. He was independent and full of plans.

Following his injury, everything changed.

Kieran was left with severe cognitive and physical impairments and required 24-hour care.

He lived in several homes, but none truly met his needs. Some lacked specialist skills or training. Others felt unwelcoming.

Too often, Kieran was left sitting in his chair for long periods simply because it was easier.

“As a family, it was devastating - and frightening - to feel like there were no good options.”

The moment we knew things would be different

When we first walked into Greenacre Park, we felt it immediately.

The team were warm, welcoming, and genuinely interested in Kieran as a person.

They took time to get to know him - even asking how he’d like to decorate his bedroom. No one had ever done that before.

For the first time, we felt hopeful.

From being cared for… to really living

The difference since moving to Greenacre Park has been remarkable.

Kieran is encouraged to engage, interact, and take part in daily life.

With physiotherapy support, he’s increased his sitting tolerance from two hours to four - making experiences we thought were impossible achievable again.

“Last year, we went to watch Leicester City play at their home ground. As a lifelong football fan, that moment meant everything.”

A place that believes in what’s still possible

Greenacre Park doesn’t focus on what Kieran can’t do.

They focus on what he can still enjoy and achieve.

He’s now in a place that understands him, supports him, and believes in him - and that belief has changed his life.

For families feeling unsure

If you’re worried about a loved one moving into a care home, I want you to know this - the right environment can make all the difference.

Everyone deserves a life with dignity, meaning, and moments of joy.

That’s what Greenacre Park has given to my brother - and it’s given our family peace of mind.
