Meadowcroft’s Lisa joins The Platform volunteers team
11 March 2019

After Lisa, who lives at our Sutton-in-Ashfield specialist care home Meadowcroft, visited our Quarryfields’ pop-up coffee shop, ‘The Platform’, in Doncaster, she was so impressed, she decided to apply for a voluntary role at the shop.
With the support of the specialist care team at Meadowcroft, Lisa went along to The Platform – a service user-led pop-up coffee shop on the same road as our Doncaster care home Quarryfields – to find out more about the work they have been doing over the last 10 months since opening.
Lisa met with Quarryfields’ Education Facilitator and The Platform lead Heather Johnson to discuss the project, how residents led on designing the shop’s interiors and uniforms, completed barista training and about the fantastic skills the volunteers have developed.
Deciding she would like to be involved, Lisa wrote a letter to Heather and detailed her wishes to become a volunteer at The Platform. Lisa’s new role will see her help out with serving hot drinks and sweet treats, maintaining the shop’s cleanliness and getting involved in projects. Lisa travels over to Doncaster via mini-bus and is accompanied by two support workers.
Lisa lives at Meadowcroft’s OneCare house, a tailored reablement pathway for residents who are suited to a more individualised care package, and although hasn’t volunteered before, has a keen interest in baking and has already completed a beginner’s food hygiene course ahead of her new role at The Platform.
Yvonne Morgan, Home Manager at Meadowcroft, said: “We are delighted that Lisa is able to become a volunteer at The Platform and I believe she will be a great addition to the team. Lisa has great communication skills and will be the perfect fit.
“Lisa loves to keep busy and has a passion for arts and crafts – so I think this is something she can bring in her new role.
“Thank you to The Platform and Quarryfields for facilitating this fantastic opportunity for Lisa.”
Heather Johnson, Education Facilitator at Quarryfields, said: “We are delighted to welcome Lisa to the team and it is exciting for us that we now have a resident from another home join us.
“Lisa really impressed me with the letter she wrote expressing her wishes to work with us. Good luck, Lisa!”
