Potters Green care home in Kilnhurst is now open

We’re delighted to announce that our new care home in Kilnhurst, Potters Green, is now open and is taking referrals.

The home supports adults living with complex needs arising from neuro-disabilities including Huntington’s disease, complex mental health needs and physical health conditions. The home’s Roman Unit offers a male only environment. 

Potters Green isn’t your typical residential care home. 

It supports people who are considered to have needs that are ‘too complex’ for mainstream care providers. 

The people we support often have a number of secondary diagnoses and complexities including behaviours of concern, tracheostomies, ventilators and PEG feeding tubes. 

Our holistic approach to care, high staffing levels and small nurse-led communities enable us to meet people’s complex needs in a community-based home, which leads to longer term person-centred outcomes.  

We’re proud to bring this much needed service to the Kilnhurst area, to enable more local people living with complex needs to get the care they need, closer to home.

Following a comprehensive refurbishment and extension, the home is now ready to welcome its first resident.

Exemplar Health Care started the refurbishment after purchasing the previous Meadow View care home from Yorkshire Parkcare Company. 

Now, the new Potters Green has 20 large bedrooms, each with an en-suite across two ten-bed communities. Each community has communal dining and living spaces, and residents also have use of an activities hub, sensory room, therapy room and large accessible garden. 

This small group living enables us to be more responsive to people’s needs and ensure continuity of care.

Nurse-led care from a multidisciplinary team 

Potters Green provides complex nursing care from a team of trained Registered Nurses and Health Care Assistants. 

As a leading nursing care provider, our staffing levels at Exemplar Health Care are higher than most. 

There’s always at least one Registered Nurse on each unit, with a team of Health Care Assistants based on people’s unique needs, which may be 1:1 or 2:1. Our in-house team also includes a Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Therapy Assistant and Activities Team. 

Residents also have the support of Exemplar Health Care clinical experts, including Behaviour Support Practitioners, a Speech and Language Therapist and a Consultant Psychiatrist in times of crisis.

This enables us to work at their own pace and build trust, and provide support with all aspects of their life, leading to improved person-centred and longer-term outcomes for those living with complex health needs.

The home will be managed by Kim Payne, who brings a wealth of experience to Potters Green. Having reached an ‘Outstanding’ CQC rating at Greenside Court, another Exemplar Health Care home in Rotherham, her dream is to do the same again.
