Meet Lindsay Abraham: Our new Commissioning Home Director of Cheshire Springs

Meet the woman who’s opening Cheshire Springs, our £5m complex needs care home in Cheshire West and Chester, opening spring 2022. 

Once completed, Cheshire Springs will care for 20 adults care for adults living with a range of complex and high acuity needs arising from neuro-disability, brain injury and stroke, including those with prolonged disorder of consciousness, spinal injury, mental ill-health, physical disability and complex dementia.

The new home will have 20 large bedrooms - each with an en suite wet room - spread over two floors and surrounded by large landscaped gardens.

Cheshire Springs will also bring over 100 jobs to the local area in a range of roles including Health Care Assistants, Registered Nurses, Senior Nurses and support staff such as Maintenance, Kitchen and Housekeeping.

In this blog, we talk to Lindsay about why she joined Exemplar Health Care and her hopes for Cheshire Spring’s first six months.

1. What drew you to Exemplar Health Care in the first instance?

I chose Exemplar because from the offset I’ve been impressed with the company in every way. I researched the company and clearly saw a company providing high quality, patient-focused care. A company with values that are different, relevant and refreshing! A company that values and invests in staff and offers progressive career pathways from the start of employment. 

I love my role and I'm excited to see what we can achieve at Cheshire Springs. I'm also looking forward to developing this service and providing high quality, patient-focused care.

2. What do you think sets Cheshire Springs apart from other care homes?

Cheshire Springs will provide care for service users with complex needs who require intensive support. The new home will also provide specialist care in a homely environment including Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.

We will be an innovative, passionate and motivated team providing excellent standards of care for our residents and a positive experience for their families.

3. Name some of the exclusive facilities at Cheshire Springs?

Cheshire Springs will have an activities hub, sensory room and sensory garden, which are designed to be accessible for all residents to encourage socialising.

Other facilities at the home include a café and pamper station, providing excellent resources for residents to run the café or enjoy a pamper.

There will also be the use of innovative technology including DR VR (Virtual reality equipment) to help with pain/anxiety and encourage relaxation through virtual reality and high-level technology.

All the facilities at Cheshire Springs are designed to enable high standards of care and treatment for all residents.

4. What do you think the residents will value the most about Cheshire Springs?

The residents at Cheshire Springs will value the access to an experienced Multi-Disciplinary team, that will enable high standards of care provision with access to engaging and innovative activities.

The home will also create a service user ambassador role, to assist the team with the ongoing development of the service and our service users who are at the heart of everything we do.

The Exemplar Health Care values are another key ethos at Cheshire Springs, with an emphasis on 'fun' for all the residents through fun activities, engagement, involvement and creativity.

5. What are you most excited about once Cheshire Springs opens?

I'm most excited to be part of this amazing new service and see the development of a new team. As well as welcoming our first residents and seeing them settle into their new surroundings.

I'm also looking forward to facilitating an excellent induction programme to equip the team with the specialist skills required for safe and effective care provision.

My goal is to create a successful home that provides outstanding care!
