Kingfisher View care home in Castleford

Kingfisher View, one of our complex needs care homes in Castleford, is celebrating after being awarded a ‘Good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in its first inspection.

The CQC – the health and social care regulator for England – carried out an unannounced visit of the Kingfisher View care home, on Wheldon Road, to inspect standards of care and safety.

The inspector awarded the home an overall rating of ‘Good’ in all five of the key areas - safe, caring, effective, responsive and well-led.

The inspection found that people who used the service and visitors provided positive feedback about the service and were complimentary about staff and management.

During the inspection, comments from service users and relatives included "I definitely believe [person] is safe at Kingfisher View," and, "I always feel safe here with the staff. It's a great place for me to be."

The report also praised the service for delivering person-centred care that was individualised to people’s needs. The report states that ‘people received person centred care and staff knew the people they were supporting well. Care plans identified how people preferred their care to be delivered. People enjoyed a range of activities.’

One person told the inspector, "I know my opinions matter. If I have anything to say, staff always listen," and “staff never assume anything, they always ask me what I want or how I prefer things. They only help me when I want them to.”

Hollie Henderson, Home Manager at Kingfisher View, said:

“We are thrilled that Kingfisher View has achieved a ‘Good’ rating in its latest inspection.

“The home absolutely deserves this recognition and is a reflection of the hard work and dedicated of all of our colleagues.

“The care team go over and above to make every day better for the residents in the home. We are proud of every single member of the team - without whom we would not have achieved this.”
