Animal therapy has been shown to improve mood, self-esteem and social skills. Many of our residents enjoy visits from animals including dogs, donkeys and even snakes and spiders!

Therapy dog, Rex, is welcomed into Kavanagh Place

Residents and colleagues at our Kavanagh Place care home in Kirkdale, Liverpool, recently had a visit from Rex, a therapy dog from Pets As Therapy.

Pets As Therapy is a national charity, where volunteers who have their own pets dedicate their spare time to visiting all types of people and venues, such as care homes.

Rex spent time with residents in the garden, where they walked him around the enclosed grounds and brushed his fur whilst enjoying his company.

Sarah, Life Skills Co-ordinator, shared “It was lovely to see what a difference animals can make.”

Research has shown that spending time with animals can reduce stress and blood pressure, as well as bring comfort and joy into the daily routine of care home residents.
