Supporting Organic September at Exemplar Health Care

Organic September is a month-long campaign to raise awareness of the many benefits of organic food and farming, which include supporting biodiversity and wildlife, helping to combat climate change, reducing exposure to pesticides and heavy metals, and promoting healthy diet benefits for humans.

At Exemplar Health Care, each of our care homes has a trained Catering Team that cooks healthy and nutritious foods to promote a varied diet.

Many of our homes grow their own fruit and vegetables, which are used to make meals in the home.

Residents across our care homes are supporting Organic September and growing their own vegetables in the care home gardens.

Here are some of their home grown goods.

Fairwinds care home in Rotherham

Roy was ecstatic when he saw the courgette grown at Fairwinds! All of the other service users couldn’t wait to try it.

Parkside care home in Tipton

Parkside picked, boiled and pickled their home grown beetroot and said it was delicious. They also grew their own spring onions which they couldn’t wait to include in a delicious meal.

St Andrew’s Court in Hull

Sandy couldn’t wait to try the pickled home grown cucumbers at St Andrew’s Court! The garden is now full of vegetables growing tall.

Greenside Court care home in Greasbrough

Residents at Greenside Court have been growing in their garden and have plenty of lovely fruit and veg patches to pick from!

Willowbeck care home in Sheffield

Some of the residents at Willowbeck have enjoyed spending time at the local allotment and have grown a range of vegetables for everyone to enjoy.

Last week, they brought home lettuce and runner beans to make a refreshing salad for tea.
