Families, friends and carers are often a vital part of our residents’ lives. At Exemplar Health Care, we welcome family involvement in every part of daily life.

Working with a person’s loved ones is an important part of delivering person-centred care.

At Exemplar Health Care, we value the role that families, friends and carers play, and work collaboratively and respectfully with them to improve the outcomes for their loved ones.

When someone moves into one of our specialist care homes, we identify the significant people in their lives and establish positive relationships from the start.

Following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic when care home visiting was limited, we’re now delighted to welcome families, friends and carers back into our care homes.

In this blog, we share some of the heart-warming stories of celebrations, reunions and parties that loved ones have enjoyed with their relatives over the past few months.

Our care homes support family and friends visiting residents, and try to make their visits as straight forward and stress free as possible.

Celebrating big anniversaries

In our care homes, our dedicated colleagues go the extra mile to support our residents to celebrate the big achievements in their lives.

We even take care of special requests such as birthdays and anniversaries!

The Health Care Team at our Fairburn Mews care home in Castleford had a request to help one of our residents celebrate Valentine’s Day with their husband.

The team worked with the home’s on-site Chef to create a memorable night for the couple, with romantic decorations and a lovely meal.

Having fun in the garden

Our care homes have beautiful outdoor spaces to encourage people to get fresh air and stay active.

When the sun’s out, our residents like to spend some quality time with their loved ones in the gardens of our care homes.

St Andrew’s Court care home in Hull had some fun in the sun when family members came to visit.

Celebrating Mother’s Day

In March, we celebrated Mother’s Day, inviting all mothers, grandmas and all those who wished to celebrate with us.

Our Lakeview care home in Wigan celebrated by organising an afternoon lunch for our residents and their families.

Going to the chapel

Recently, a resident from our Dearnevale care home in Barnsley said “I do”!

Our colleagues Laura and Autumn helped Pete to get suited and booted, ready to marry his bride Jayne. They accompanied Pete to the wedding venue, where they became husband and wife, followed by a wedding reception after.

Lauren shared: “It was a really beautiful day, it was lovely to see Pete with all his family and friends.”

We’d like to wish the happy couple congratulations and many happy returns, from all at Exemplar Health Care!

After the wedding, Pete’s son got in touch with us and said: “Thank you to the whole team at Dearnevale for the care that my dad received and for the dedication of the staff who helped us to make the day go ahead.”

Getting out and about

Although it’s lovely to welcome family and friends into our homes, we also support our residents to enjoy some time outside in the community whilst seeing some familiar faces.

Our Church Walk care home in Rochdale recently accompanied Barbara out on a family meal to celebrate her birthday.
