15 April 2021

Kerry Hill - New Commissioning Home Director at Blackmoor

Meet the woman who’s opening Blackmoor, our £4.9m complex needs care home in Birmingham, opening autumn 2021.

In charge is Kerry Hill, the Commissioning Home Director of Blackmoor, a 30-bed care home on Blackmoor Croft, located in Birmingham.

Once completed, the home will provide ground floor living for adults living with a brain injury, neuro-disability, spinal injury, physical disability and mental health condition.

Blackmoor is one of Exemplar Health Care’s 32 complex needs care homes across England.

In this blog, we talk to Kerry about why she joined Exemplar Health Care and her hopes for Blackmoor’s first six months.

Q&A with Kerry Hill, Commissioning Home Director of Blackmoor:

  1. What drew you to Exemplar Health Care in the first instance?

I first started working in the care sector 24 years ago as I wanted to pursue a career to make a difference in people’s lives.

Since then, I have worked in many different areas over the years, however complex care is where my passion lies.

As my career has progressed, I found myself working for a number of larger care providers where the main focus is on achieving commercial success.

Exemplar Health Care has a reputation for delivering first-class, person-centred care, which is achieved by truly focusing on those using the service. I wanted to get back to focusing on the individual and making a positive difference in their lives, this is something that Exemplar Health Care is known for.

  1. What do you think sets Blackmoor apart from other care homes?

Whilst Blackmoor is still very much in development, it's already showing the features of a beautiful and homely environment.

Blackmoor will provide holistic care and support for people with complex needs through an in-house multi-disciplinary team.

Colleagues recruited to join the Blackmoor team will be selected carefully to ensure that they can demonstrate the Exemplar Health Care values and have a passion for achieving positive outcomes.

3. Name some of the exclusive facilities at Blackmoor?

Blackmoor will provide 30 large bedrooms with en-suite facilities, across three floors of the home. There are multiple communal areas dedicated for each of the three units, which have been named; Tolkien, James Brindley and Bournville.

There’s a communal hub area which will be a central area for activities and events within the home, as well as a sensory room, salon, therapy areas and a landscaped large outdoor space.

There will also be a visitor’s bedroom where loved ones can spend the night when visiting their relatives. I think this is a wonderful addition to the home as keeping connected with others is extremely important for our service users.

4. What do you think the residents will value the most about Blackmoor?

I think our service users will value that they will be able to help shape the service at Blackmoor and have a strong voice in how the service continually develops over time.

5. What are you most excited for once Blackmoor opens?

I am very much looking forward to meeting lots of new people and welcoming new service users into the home.

I am thrilled to be able to develop what will in no doubt be a strong and successful team. However, I am most excited about sharing successes (big and small) with everyone who is a part of Blackmoor - we have an exciting journey ahead of us!
