Dearnevale

Thanks to the help and encouragement of our specialist care home in Barnsley, Dearnevale, team leader Michelle Sari, has overcome personal boundaries and is on the way to securing a health and social care qualification at the University of Huddersfield.

When Michelle started working at Dearnevale ten and a half years ago, she was a very shy person and had little confidence in herself.

Then six years ago, thanks to Home Manager Helen McGowan, putting her name forward, became an infection control representative.

This gave Michelle confidence and this marked the start of her educational journey. Michelle has done her 7300 and PTTLS qualifications so that she can train others via in-house training.

Three years ago Michelle went to the Adult Learning Centre in Barnsley to study maths and english, where she started at entry level 3 for both subjects. She has now gained a GCSE in maths and a level 2 in english.

This year, Michelle has enrolled at the University of Huddersfield, to complete a Cert-Ed qualification so that she will be able to teach others in adult health and social care.

Michelle said: “I would like to thank the support of Dearnevale in pushing me to do great things. I live with dyslexia but I have not let this get in the way of achieving great things. If you live with dyslexia, speak out.”

What a fantastic achievement!
