Dearnevale recognised as one of the top 20 care homes in Yorkshire and Humberside for fifth year running

Dearnevale care home in Grimethorpe, Barnsley, has been recognised as one of the top 20 care homes in Yorkshire and Humberside by carehome.co.uk.

The annual awards recognise 20 of the top rated care homes in each region of the UK, based on reviews from service users and family members/friends on the carehome.co.uk website.

Dearnevale, rated ‘Outstanding’ with CQC, has received a number of five star reviews during 2022.

One review, from the wife of a Dearnevale resident, read:

“My husband is currently a resident of the Fuller Unit. The staff are absolutely outstanding and treat him as though he was one of their family. They go above and beyond to ensure that he is safe and comfortable. The management is excellent and approachable. The home is always immaculately clean and always smells fresh. There are always activities going on throughout the day. My husband spent eight months in hospital before settling into Dearnevale. My family and I feel so much more comfortable and feel he is now getting the care he deserves. We can now do things as a family and know that he is being well looked after. Dearnevale is like a home from home and always makes me feel welcome.”

Another review, from a friend, read:

“All the staff go out of their way to look after their residents' needs as well as visitors that see the residents. You always get a warm, friendly welcome when you go from everyone and to me personally, it is like having an extended family and I can't thank all the staff enough for what they have done for my best friend over the years.”

The care home currently has a score of 10/10 on carehome.co.uk, the highest rating that the platform offers.

Speaking about the achievement, Home Manager, Helen McGowan, says: “We’re absolutely over the moon to achieve this status for the fifth year running.

“This award is special as it comes from the reviews generated by our service users and their families.

“It’s an honour and a pleasure to care for our service users and it means so much that their families submit such wonderful reviews.

“The team constantly strives to deliver excellent care and to be recognised in this ways means so much to us all.”

Dearnevale is a specialist care home in Grimethorpe in Barnsley, which supports up to 40 adults living with complex needs arising from mental health conditions, neuro-disabilities and physical disabilities.

This year, the home has become Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA) Quality Assured.

The accreditation is a quality assurance programme that identifies the behaviours, cultures and specialist services required for a care home to specialise in caring for people living with Huntington’s disease.

Dearnevale was awarded the HDA Quality Assured tick after going through a rigorous process to meet the stands to pass the accreditation.
