Welcome to Thames House
Situated in a quiet, suburban area of Rochdale, Thames House is specifically designed to provide the best possible care for service users.
Making every day better for service users is our aim, working with them to achieve personal goals and outcomes. We actively encourage care and activity plans to be updated regularly, enabling the service user to be happy and well cared for.
Hollingworth and Pennine are the two 10-bed units within the home. Each unit has a lounge and dining room - an activities room is featured in the Hollingworth unit. Service users and families are encouraged to decorate bedrooms to suit personal tastes; each room is also fitted with TV and telephone points and an accessible ensuite wet room.
Within the dining rooms, service users are encouraged to eat together at mealtimes. Our varied restaurant style dining menu is developed with the service users to ensure everyone enjoys foods to their taste. Personal preferences, condition-specific and dietary requirements are all taken into account. We specialise in the use of food moulds, which make pureed foods more appetising for those with difficulty swallowing.
Service users at Thames also benefit from NHS specialist consultant visits. Neurologists, psychologists, GPs and Huntingtons Disease Association experts visit the home on a quarterly basis, to avoid changes in routine for service users and the frustration of long hospital waits. Families are also given the opportunity to be more directly involved in the consultation, and benefit from first-hand information regarding their loved ones.
Life at Thames House
Social activities within the home are run by both activities staff and service users. Encouraging participation from service users allows us to develop meaningful activities to benefit everyone and develop social skills between individuals. As well as group activities, staff facilitate individual hobbies and interests, as well as supporting access to education, where possible.
Regular outings take place for all, including trips to the cinema, musicals, the theatre and Blackpool. We also welcome live entertainers and the Zoo Lab who bring exotic therapy animals to visit. Other in-house activities include baking, cooking and gardening.
Our attractive, spacious garden includes a patio area with space for summer barbecues. Raised flower beds allow space for service users to pot various vegetables or plants, as well as tend to the current flowers. The garden also features a pet rabbit, who service users can volunteer to look after and pet, when they choose.
Staff routinely catch up with service users to ensure they are happy with life at Thames House, and voice any views they may have. Family and friends are also encouraged to join these meetings and be involved in the life of their loved ones.
