Supporting people to live life their way

Activities

Having complex care needs shouldn’t mean giving up the things that make life feel like your own.

We support each person to maintain relationships, interests, skills, routines, and goals that matter to them.

Meaning starts with the person

A meaningful life looks different for everyone.

We get to know each person’s interests, relationships, experiences, routines, and goals – and what a good day looks like to them.

This helps us support everyday life around who they are, what they can do, and what matters most.

More than activities

Meaningful living is about much more than being busy or entertained.

Our approach creates opportunities for people to experience:

Choice and control

Making everyday choices and having a say in the things that affect their life.

Independence

Maintaining abilities and developing the skills and confidence to do more.

Relationships and connection

Maintaining important relationships and building new connections with others.

Enjoyment

Taking part in hobbies, interests, and experiences that bring enjoyment and fulfilment.

Achievement

Working towards personal goals and recognising progress that matters to them.

Purpose and belonging

Contributing, taking responsibility, and feeling valued and involved.

Meaning in the everyday

Everyday moments are opportunities to make choices, use skills, and stay involved.

From preparing a meal to going shopping, we support people to take an active part, maintain their abilities, and build independence where possible.

For others, the focus may be on maintaining familiar routines, confidence, and the skills they already have.

Having a role, a voice, and something to contribute

Feeling valued and having something to contribute can be an important part of a meaningful life.

We create opportunities for people to use their strengths, take on roles, and influence life within their home.

Contribute

Help in the garden, run a tuck shop, organise an event, or take on other meaningful roles around the home.

Take responsibility

Welcome new people, help induct colleagues, chair meetings, or take part in recruiting new team members.

Have a voice

Share ideas, influence decisions, and help shape everyday life within the home.

Making sure every voice is heard

People should have a say in their own care and the services they receive.

Our Service User Ambassadors and Regional Service User Councils give people opportunities to share ideas, influence decisions, and help shape everyday life across our homes.

Where people work alongside colleagues to develop services, initiatives, or ways of working, we use co-production to create them together as equal partners.

Enquire about complex care

Our Referrals Team can discuss an individual’s needs, answer your questions, and help identify the right care home.
