Colleagues at Shire Oaks Court helped resident Ted and his partner, Trish, celebrate 37 years together, keeping a much-loved tradition alive.

Ted and Trish first met while working at Marston’s Brewery in Burton-on-Trent in 1986 and moved in together the following year.

Ever since, they’ve celebrated the anniversary of moving in together, and this year was no different.

Colleagues at Shire Oaks Court wanted to make sure the couple could continue their tradition and enjoy their special day.

They arranged for Trish to receive a beautiful bunch of flowers from Ted, just as he’d always done throughout their relationship.

Trish shares:

Colleagues at the home bought me some lovely flowers as a gift from Ted. It’s almost as if they knew that’s what he always did for me.”

Supporting the relationships that matter

Ted lives with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia, and Trish says knowing he’s happy and cared for means everything to her.

“Ted has Parkinson’s and Lewy body dementia, and my only goal for him is to be happy at Shire Oaks Court.

I’ve seen that Ted is loved by all the staff so much. He can be a cheeky chappie when he’s in the right mood … but grumpy when he’s tired!”

“I visit him twice a week, but we both miss each other so much. At 73 years old, I’ve recently had a small tattoo of a heart with his name in it!”

The couple also looked forward to celebrating Valentine’s Day together, with an afternoon tea at the home for residents and their loved ones.

Trish joked: “I’ve just got to hope that Ted isn’t Mr. Grumpy on that day!”

Making every day better

The Manager at Shire Oaks Court, says:

“I’m so incredibly proud of the team for helping Ted and Trish to celebrate their special day.

Our care is always centred around the people we support, and that includes their relationships with loved ones.”
