Alongside national charity Feed the Hungry, residents and team members from Quarryfields care home donated their time to volunteer at a community food packing event to help to pack 5000 meals for those in need.
Volunteers from Quarryfields pop-up shop, The Platform, took time to help the charity’s initiative that will help disadvantaged children in South Africa.
Heather Johnson, Education Facilitator at Quarryfields said: “The packing event was just amazing. Residents Michael, Colin, Rebecca and Cassandra took part along with staff from The Platform.
“Together, we helped to pack 5000 meals to be sent all over the world for disadvantaged children.
“The atmosphere was fantastic! A gong went off every time a thousand meals were packed. When we reached five thousand meals, one of the volunteers who is going to South Africa to hand out the food, stepped forward and sang amazing grace – it was a great moment.
“Our volunteers thoroughly enjoyed taking part and they all worked very hard
“We had lunch and each took home a delicious veg and fruit box from Bentley Urban Farm. We are now planning to volunteer for the farm later in the year. We also made lots of new contacts whilst we were there from other local organisations.”
What a fantastic initiative to be involved in – well done to everyone at The Platform.
