Laura Clegg is the Manager at Hillside Court, Exemplar Health Care’s newest complex care service in Leeds.
In this blog, we talk to Laura about what people will value about living at Hillside Court and what sets the home apart from other care homes.
What drew you to Exemplar Health Care?
“I’m incredibly passionate about providing exceptional care and Exemplar Health Care core values resonate with my own.
“I wanted to work at a company where I would make a real difference, each and every day.
“We put our service users at the heart of everything we do. Our care is person-centred and we support people’s holistic needs, which means no two days are the same.
“The opportunity to open a brand-new, state of the art care home was also something I couldn’t miss.”
What do you think will set Hillside Court apart from other care homes?
“Hillside Court has a highly qualified team, they each bring different experience and knowledge to the skilled team.
“There’s always a Registered Nurse on duty on each unit and we have an in-house Therapy Team.
“Due to the complex nature of the care we provide, our staffing levels are often much higher than other nursing care providers.
“Our high staffing levels allow us to build trust and work at the pace of the individual. We provide personalised person-centred care, which leads to longer-term positive outcomes.
“Our service users also have the support of Exemplar Health Care clinical experts. This enables people to access holistic care and a range of services in their home.
“Hillside Court has small units ranging from 8 to 12 bedrooms, and each community has its own identity.
“We provide a homely and supportive environment that’s more responsive to individual needs.”
What do you think people value the most about living at Hillside Court?
“People who live at Hillside Court will enjoy being an integral part of the ongoing development of the home.
“We listen to our service users and involve them in decisions that impact their lives and the running of their home.
“They’re central to all decisions made and wherever possible, are involved in their implementation.
“At Exemplar Health Care we have Service User Ambassadors who are the voice of our residents and lead change.
"We’ll have our very own Service User Ambassador who takes part in the Service User Council.
“The Council meet regularly to not only make decisions about their own home, but across the company.”
What do you have planned for the first six months at Hillside Court?
“We want to be the first choice for those who commission care for adults living with complex needs, and the first choice for people looking for a rewarding career in social care.
“We plan to do this by building a high-performing team, who live the Exemplar Health Care values on a daily basis.
“Our residents will help shape the future of Hillside Court and, in doing so, will be able to live their best lives as part of a growing community.”
