Amanda Mitchell is one of our new colleagues in the home, and studied at the school over the road from the new care home on Ash Grove.
In this blog, we talk to Amanda, Clinical Nurse Manager at Bennett Court, about why she joined Exemplar Health Care and what inspired her to become a Nurse.
Can you tell us a little more about your background?
I studied at the sixth form at Minsthorpe High School and Community College, which happened to be across the road from where they’re building the Bennett Court care home.
When I was at college I decided to become a volunteer at the home, which was previously a residential home for elderly people. As part of my work experience I continued to volunteer at the home after my placement finished, where I enjoyed getting to know all the residents and develop my skills further.
The whole experience was rewarding and I was able to make a difference to people's lives, and provide some fun and happiness to those who lived there.
What inspired you to be a Nurse?
My work experience at the residential home inspired me to work in health and social care.
By seeing the positive impact of interaction and activities on people's mental health, I knew becoming a Nurse was the perfect role.
What do you think sets Bennett Court apart from other care homes?
Bennett Court is the only service locally that provides care for people living with complex needs within a purpose-built environment.
The high staffing ratios, clinical expertise and experience of all the staff will ensure individually tailored, person-centred care.
What’s your favourite thing about your role?
My role as a Clinical Nurse Manager at Bennett Court will be the perfect opportunity to ensure that the care delivered is of the highest standard.
I’ve previously worked in the NHS and other local care homes, however, I’m most excited to be part of a growing service from the start and embedding all the Exemplar Health Care values.
What would you say to others thinking about applying for a role at Bennett Court?
I’ve been part of the Bennett Court team for two months now – I’ve also had a very comprehensive induction programme by having the opportunity to work in other homes.
Overall, I’ve been made to feel really valued and the training and development opportunities Exemplar Health Care provide are amazing.
I would encourage anyone locally to apply for a role at Bennett Court in South Elmsall and join us on this exciting journey.
