All the latest from our Service User Council

For the latest Service User Council, members met at Exemplar’s Stoke-On-Trent home, Scotia Heights to discuss the latest developments from each home.

Michelle, who lives at Scotia Heights, revealed the completed template of the new Service User Guide. Michelle worked on the guide with her fellow residents and it now includes welcoming messages from our service users. 

Michelle said: “I’ve worked with everyone in different ways to make sure it reflects our home. Some helped me colour in the design for the first page, some helped me create the personal messages and others gave me quotes to include.

“I’m happy I got to do this and I know it’ll make a difference to others who come to live here.”

Next on the agenda was the success of the new service user holiday policies, which came into force at the beginning of this summer. Now, all Exemplar homes have one policy for holidays which enables, where possible, all residents to go on holiday as they choose.

As a result, over the summer some of our service users have enjoyed holidays to Cyprus, the countryside and even had holidays booked to Llandudno.

Meeting attendees also got to see the unveiling of the new service user video project called, ‘About Me’. The project has seen seven members of the council work on individual videos which reveal their personal thoughts on life in their homes and how they are working towards their personal goals.

All videos were very well received by the council and will now be used as part of staff inductions and for further training and development.

Chris, service user at Thames House said: “It felt so great to see the finished videos. We are all very proud of ourselves and were so happy to be a part of this project and share our thoughts.”

The Service User Council meetings are an integral part of Exemplar Health Care, enabling service users to help shape their future and the future of their homes.
