Swim Serpentine

On September 22nd, two daughters of an Exemplar service user are taking part in Swim Serpentine, a two day open water swimming festival in Hyde Park, London, to raise money for Havenmere.

To show their appreciation for the care and support provided to their dad, Rebecca and Sarah are wanting to give something back to the nurse-led care home based in Hull. Speaking of the challenge, Rebecca says: “We very much appreciate all the hard work the team at Havenmere do for dad, and the other service users – as well as the support they show to families. This is a way for us to give something back; any money raised will be put towards purchasing  physio equipment for the home.”

Havenmere is a specialist care home, which provides care to individuals living with brain injuries, complex mental health and neuro-disabilities. Service users are encouraged to work towards goals laid out in their care plans, through the use of physiotherapy, speech and language therapy as well as access to a sensory room to reawaken and develop cognitive senses.

Home manager, Diane Howden says of the girls’ challenge: “When the girls told me what they were planning, I cried. It’s always so nice to know families appreciate the care we provide to their loved ones – especially when their condition is quite difficult to cope with, such as a brain injury.

“Whatever we can do to provide the best care and support not only to the service users, but to their loved ones, we do. So to have money raised in order to support service user rehabilitation means the world to us – I can’t wait to support the girls in their challenge, and find out what physio equipment they set their sights on for us.”
