Driving improvement at Kavanagh Place
Following a recent CQC publication on ‘Driving improvement across mental health’, the Physiotherapy Team at Kavanagh Place has developed a plan to advocate and empower service users.
Exemplar’s specialist care home in Liverpool, Kavanagh Place, provides care and support for adults living with neuro-disabilities, early-onset dementia, and mental ill-health.
With a vision to making every day better for service users, and encouraging each and every individual to feel empowered, receive a sense of achievement and make a difference throughout their lives and their home, staff at Kavanagh Place are encouraging service users to become more involved with planning activities, interviewing potential members of staff and engage more with the local community.
Seven service users are currently involved with many roles throughout Kavanagh Place; including Service User Council Ambassadors, decision panels for recruitment, activities champion and clinical governance member.
Physiotherapist Paul said: “I believe our service users are our greatest teachers. We constantly learn from them, and their insight to their level of care and involvement in running the service is priceless.”
The Physiotherapist Team run daily activities within Kavanagh Place, where each and every service user can track their progress. Regular visits to the local Hydrotherapy Pool have now begun, as well as in-house fitness classes, all of which are extremely popular.
The Physio room is currently undergoing a minor refurbishment – and once competed, will provide more access to rehabilitation, exercise and therapy for all service users.
