Activity staff from all of our homes gathered in Rotherham’s Holiday Inn last week to take part in Exemplar’s first activity forum.
To break the ice Communications Director, Tracy Clarkson asked them to get into groups and create a trophy using marshmallows, spaghetti, feathers, pipe cleaners, googly eyes and anything else they could find lying around.
The winning design was a trophy based on of the famous fairytale Cinderella. It is intended to be awarded to people who have blossomed while in their role. Have a look at some of the designs here.
The second activity was to create a balloon statute which represented teamwork. The winners of each event won an easter egg.
Exemplar holds forums and meetings for people in particular job roles on a regular basis. These gatherings allow staff to talk about the problems they face in homes and collectively come up with solutions.
They are also an excellent way to get the staff together and build relationships between the different homes.
During the day they swapped tips for activities, discuss good places to visit with residents and offer their resources and equipment. The day ended with a questions and answer session.
