HANNAH COCKROFT TO OPEN REFURBISHED UNIT AT FAIRBURN CHASE
Fairburn Chase, a specialist facility which is part of Exemplar Health Care, is to officially open its newly-refurbished unit – one of four at the care centre – on 4th March 2015. The unit will be opened from 2pm onwards by Hannah Cockroft MBE. Hannah has won many awards and medals for her achievements in wheelchair sport, including two gold medals at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
“We are delighted to be re-opening the Athena Unit,” said manager Matthew Ledger. “We’ll be thrilled to be able to provide an even better personalised service than before, offering therapeutic care to the under-65s with a wide range of disabilities. We’re also delighted that Hannah Cockroft MBE is able to officially open the unit for us on Wednesday 4th March.”
Athena Unit is one of four unique units provided at Fairburn Chase. It is targeted at helping younger adults with disabilities, focusing on a rehabilitative strategy. Teal Unit provides more complex care after a detailed assessment process, while Cygnet Unit caters for those with a range of nursing and supportive services. Finally Kingfisher Unit is the residential part of the home, offering both permanent stays and the opportunity for respite care and emergency stays too.
“Everyone who receives care at Fairburn Chase goes through our personalised assessment process initially,” Matthew explained. “This ensures we are aware of their specific situation and needs, and can therefore tailor the right level of care and support to each individual.”
The aim at Exemplar Health Care is to provide care packages that are specifically focussed on each individual. The refurbished Athena Unit will be able to provide short breaks as well as respite services, not to mention rehabilitative services provided over a longer period of time. The aim is to ensure those who have a physical disability are able to live with as much independence as possible in the community in the future.
“We are able to support individuals with acquired or lifelong disabilities,” Matthew added. “These include individuals with acquired brain injuries as well as those with conditions such as spina bifida, arthritis and multiple sclerosis. Our highly-personalised service enables us to provide each and every individual with a wide range of support. This may include support in far more than just physical terms, but also in terms of social, educational and therapeutic needs to name just a few.”
We are a purpose-built facility offering specialist care for adults under 65 who require residential or nursing care for disabilities. We provide 73 places across 4 units, all offering specially-tailored support and care for each adult.
Attendance at the official opening of Athena Unit is by prior invitation only. For more information about Fairburn Chase or Exemplar Health Care, or to register an interest in attending the event, please contact manager Matthew Ledger on 01977 559703.
