Our visit to Richmond Hill Academy

26 April 2019

Richmond Hill Academy

On 25th April, we visited Richmond Hill Academy in Leeds to give the pupils an insight into the different careers available in the care industry as well as our nearby Copperfields home which is set to open this Autumn.

Kelly Hodgson, our Customer Engagement Manager, delivered an assembly to 75 Year 6 pupils and answered their questions about the various roles available at Exemplar Health Care, the wider care sector and contextualised what it is like to work in care by sharing details of her career path.

Kelly said: “I’m thrilled to have been able to share my experience in the health care industry with the Year 6 pupils at Richmond Hill Academy. I started with an overview of what we do and the career pathways we have here at Exemplar Health Care before giving my personal experience of working in care. It was fantastic to see children as young as 10 engaging and asking questions and already showing an interest in pursuing a career as a nurse or carer”.

Richard Grogan, Assistant Principal  at Richmond Hill Academy, said: “With career-related learning becoming increasingly important at Primary School level and there being a real need for many positions in the care industry, it’s brilliant that Exemplar Health Care encouraged and arranged Kelly’s visit to the school to engage with our pupils. Not only did Kelly share vital insight as someone working in the sector but she also sought to highlight careers that the children didn’t realise existed in care, such as the domestic roles”.

Copperfields will be our second Leeds home, alongside Ravensdale in Whinmoor which has been in the city for almost ten years.
