‘It’s amazing!’ How I won £2,000 with Exemplar Health Care

Naseer Tahir couldn’t believe it.

After just a month at his new job, Naseer, a domestic team member at Longley Park View, an Exemplar Health Care complex needs care home in Sheffield, had just been told he’d won £2,000.

“It's amazing for me,” said Naseer.

“First, when my manager, Lisa, told me I'd won, I couldn't believe it. I thought she was joking. I’d started work at the home in 3rd December - and I won the prize within the same month!”

“Everyone said I had been very lucky.”

Naseer had taken part in Exemplar Health Care’s lottery-style ‘In to win’ competition.  

The competition saw our care home-based colleagues across 31 operating homes win tickets for picking up extra shifts over Christmas and the New Year.

Dozens of winners

Luckily for Naseer – who had worked regular hours over Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day – the randomly-selected winning ticket was drawn with his name on it.

In total, there were 34 winners in the competition. The second prize winner received £1,000, the third prize winner £500, while one care colleague each from 31 homes received £100.

How will Naseer spend the money?

“We’ll maybe go on holiday, or go back to see family in Pakistan,” said Naseer, who lives in Sheffield with his wife and two children.

Faith and food

But that’s not all he’ll do with the prize money.

Luckily for his colleagues at Longley Park View, Naseer’s winning meant a party – and food!

On Monday, the whole home’s care team gathered round to eat a feast of curry, naans samosas, bhajis, and pakoras, and traditional Pakistani desserts.

Luckily, there was plenty left for his care colleagues on the night shift!

For Naseer, faith is his driving motivation – along with a deep-held belief in helping others around him.

“If God gives you happiness,”  he adds,  “then you must share it for everyone around you.”
