Exemplar Health Care starts work on £5million specialist nursing home in Wyke, Bradford

Exemplar Health Care is pleased to announce that work has started on a new specialist nursing home for adults living with complex needs in Wyke, Bradford.

The new home, named Wykewood, will open in Spring 2021, and will support 40 adults living with complex mental and physical health conditions.

The community-based home will provide person-centred care and rehabilitation that focuses on maximising independence, building everyday living skills and empowering people to live as fulfilled lives as possible.

The home is off Huddersfield Road, near the Community and Children’s Centre - neighbours may remember the site as the old Wyke Library.

Construction began on the home in March 2020. Building continued, with strict safety measures adopted by the contractor, Walter Thompson, through the Coronavirus (COVID) lockdown period. When it opens, Wykewood will join Exemplar Health Care’s existing portfolio of 32 homes across England.

Once completed, Wykewood’s 40 large bedrooms - each with an en-suite wet room - spread over three floors, will be surrounded by large landscaped gardens all around the home.

Sharon Burton, Wykewood’s Commissioning Home Director, is keen for the home to have a positive impact on the community.

“I’m delighted and proud that Wykewood will support Wyke’s community,” said Sharon.

“We at Exemplar Health Care know the Bradford area well, having two fantastic, high-quality homes over in Leeds. We’ve also closely consulted with local Clinical Commissioning Groups and the council to understand the keen demand for a high-quality home like Wykewood in the area.

“Our new home means that local people who need support can live close to their own homes, and get back their independence and everyday living skills.”

Stable and secure jobs for local residents

“Wykewood will create 150, stable, secure, full-time and part-time jobs, allowing for many different shift patterns and skill-sets,” Sharon added.

Next year, the home will begin recruiting Nurses, Support Workers, Administrators, Kitchen and Domestic Team members, and other support staff.
