What life in our care homes is like

Finding the right care matters, but so does knowing that the person you love can still have a life that feels like their own.

Life in our homes is shaped around each person – their routines, relationships, interests, choices, and what makes a good day for them.

Helping someone settle in

Moving somewhere new is a big change, and it can take time to feel at home.

Before someone moves in, we spend time getting to know them and their routines, preferences, relationships, and communication.

Once they’re here, we’ll help them settle in at their own pace.

Staying part of their life

Moving into a care home doesn’t mean family life stops.

Family and friends can visit, spend time together at home, celebrate special occasions, and plan days out.

If you live further away, we can also help you stay connected by phone or video call.

How families are involved will always be guided by the person’s wishes and what works for them.

We’ll agree with your loved one and your family how you’d like to keep in touch.

This could include regular conversations with the home team, care reviews, family meetings, phone or video calls, and other updates.

You’ll also have opportunities to ask questions, share what you’ve noticed, and talk to us about anything that’s important to you.

Yes, where your loved one wants you to be involved.

You know them in a way we don’t, so what you can tell us about their history, routines, communication, preferences, and what makes a good or difficult day can be really valuable.

We’ll also give you opportunities to contribute to reviews and share your views as their needs or wishes change.

Please talk to us. You can speak to the team at the home at any time if you have a question, concern, or simply want to understand something better.

We want families to feel comfortable speaking openly with us, and we’ll listen and work with you to understand what needs to happen next.
