Residents host surprise VIP-themed long service celebration event

To celebrate the long service of the care and nursing team at Exemplar Health Care’s Castleford home Fairburn Mews, residents worked with the home’s activities team to host a very special, surprise celebration event.
From picking a ‘VIP’ theme, to creating decorations, invitations and planning the event, service users, led by resident Karen, worked together to put on a surprise event for all team members who are celebrating long service milestones this year.
As well as preparing for the party, residents wrote individual letters to team members where they congratulated people and thanked them for the fantastic care they’ve provided over the past 5, 10, or 15 years.
Fairburn Mews saw 27 team members celebrate long service milestones and saw them pick up a commemorative badge and a certificate to acknowledge the commitment to their jobs.
Adding to the long service celebrations, Fairburn Mews is proud to have a husband and wife on the team, who together, have worked at the home for an impressive 25 years.
Fairburn Mews provides specialist nurse-led care for 20 people living conditions including neuro-disabilities, mental ill-health, dementia, spinal injuries, brain injuries and strokes.
Karen Neal, Home Manager at Fairburn Mews, said: “This is a great achievement by everyone who helped put the event on, and it was very impressive to keep it a secret from everyone.
“I know the team were really touched by everyone’s efforts and personalised letters – it was a really lovely event. A special thanks to Karen in organising such a fantastic party.

As well as celebrating team member’s long service achievements, 2019 also sees Exemplar Health Care celebrate its 20th year of providing high-quality, specialist care.
During the year, Exemplar Health Care will be celebrating the milestone through celebration events, looking ahead to the next 20 years, opening several new homes and profiling ourselves as leaders in the care industry.
