Martin makes the move towards independence thanks to Bridgewood Mews

This month, Bridgewood Mews resident Martin has taken the next step towards independence by moving into the home’s new OneCare service – an independent living pathway that enables service users to lead an independent life at the same time as receiving specialist care from the home’s care team.

Martin, who lives with brain injury after experiencing a stroke has lived in the specialist nursing home for two years, and required significant care to meet his individual care needs. He has made incredible progress towards his goals and no longer requires the specialist home environment.

So, Martin has moved into the home’s OneCare service, a specially adapted house in the local community, located very close to Bridgewood Mews. This means he can live with more independence whilst still being supported by specialist support and nursing teams.

Rebecca Marshall, home manager at Bridgewood Mews, said: “When our residents move into a OneCare house it gives the whole team a sense of achievement as we can see how individuals have progressed since moving to our home but also how we can provide them with the opportunity to live more independently.

“We worked with Martin, as we do with all of our OneCare service users, to ensure his home meets all of his individual requirements. Martin chose the décor of his house as well as making sure the house met all of his needs.

“It is great to see Martin making the next stage in his journey to independence.”

Exemplar’s OneCare service prides itself in working with service users to create a home that is suited to people’s individual requirements – whatever their condition or care needs.
